Worst Case Scenario is an artistic contemplation on food meanings and functions based on David M. Kaplan’s 13 conceptions of what food can be (nature, nutrition, fuel, medicine, diet, pleasure, taboo, commodity, goods, meaning, spirituality, recipe, art). Together with Taurus Stalnionis, we began discussing forms and contexts wherein food isn’t meant to be eaten.

Some fuel to this topic led to the addition of two painters working alongside us in the art residency (Biswajit Dasgupta and Buddhadev Mukherjee). For designers, the idea of total freedom of expression exercised by painters seemed foreign but tempting. These conversations eventually led us to prepare a series of inedible dishes, mixing foraged ingredients (regardless of their edibility) with some “real” foods, as well as to heated discussions about food aesthetics.
